This Year At...Cannes Film Festival 2012

This years Cannes Film Festival had all the stars in a flurry as they whipped out the stylists for their evening ensembles - and boy did they mean business!

With so many fighting for best dressed of the night, here are a few of the faves...

Cheryl Cole wowed the crowds in a gorgeous Stephane Rolland feathered gown.

Eva Longoria would have stolen the night in this fabulous Marchesa creation if it wasn't for...

...Screen siren Jane Fonda who dazzled in timeless Versace!

Another star with an enviable frock collection was Jessica Chastain, who floated down the red carpet in Armani and Gucci.

This Year At...The 84th Academy Awards (The Oscars)

Ooooo the moment finally arrived - the moment everyone had been waiting for, the moment every actor in Hollywood had been waiting for and the event everyone had stuck firmly in their fashion calendar. Yes I'm talking about the coveted Oscars, a night of celebration and jubilation as everyone who's anyone comes together dressed to the nines to find out who was the best out of all the rest.

As well as dying to know who would walk away with the best leading man, best leading lady and best picture awards, we ALL wanted to get a piece of the action from the most famous red carpet in the world, and boy they did not disappoint (well some did but we'll get to them later).

And now, the nominees for best dressed female...

L-R: Gwyneth Paltrow, Milla Jovovich, Octavia Spencer and Rooney Mara (Click to enlarge)
We begin with the glistening snowy angels that graced the carpet. First we see Gwyneth Paltrow who alongside Robert Downey Jr. presented the award for Best Documentary in a perfectly structured Tom Ford Gown. The gown featured an asymmetrical neckline and Gwynnie teamed it with a matching floor length cape.

Next we have Milla Jovovich, who presented an award in gorgeous, embellished one shoulder Elie Saab dress from her Haute Couture range.
Now here's a lady not to be ingored - Octavia Spencer dazzled the crowd and tearfully received her Oscar for best female in a supporting role for The Help, in an extremely flattering Tadashi Shoji embellished gown. Octavia beat fellow The Help actress Jessica Chastain for her prestigious award.

And finally, we have the girl with the dragon tattoo herself Roony Mara, stunning everybody in an effortlessly chic Givenchy gown.

L-R: Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Chastain and Viola Davis (Click to enlarge)
On to the more colourful of our Hollywood starlets now with nominated Michelle Williams a.k.a Marylin Monroe in a gorgeous coral coloured Louis Vuitton dress and presenters Natalie Portman in a vintage red polka dot Dior gown and Emma Stone in warm pink Giambattista Valli couture gown featuring a large hit or miss bow (I'm saying hit!)

Following these first class acts are golden girl Cameron Diaz, who presented the award for best make-up alongside Jennifer Lopez, in a nude coloured Gucci gown. The dress held tight to her svelte figure before flowing out into a cascade of glittering ruffles.

Also making an impact on the red carpet were The Help co-stars Jessica Chastain who wowed in an Alexander McQueen creation and nominee Viola Davis, who in her eye-catching Vera Wang number just missed out on best leading lady, which instead fell to the unstoppable Meryl Streep.

Angelina Jolie (Click to enlarge)
If I had to pick one fashion miss of the night it is probably Angelina Jolie. It's not even that she really looked bad, it's just that we are so used to her wearing strapless floor length dresses in black or white, it would just be nice for her to step out of he comfort zone a little bit and splash on some colour. That and it looks like if that dress was any heavier it would snap her in half and she seemed so dead set on making sure everyone saw her leg. Seriously! In every picture, hell even while presenting an award, there it was, the leg, uncomfortably stuck out of the slit in the dress. Oh well, better luck next time Ange.

This Year At...London Fashion Week

Once again London Fashion Week got going with a bang, attracting some of the world's biggest designers as week as some of the world's biggest stars. But could they step up to the challenge? We take a look at some of LFW's fashion hits and misses.

Hit - Kate Moss
Kate was every bit the fashion queen in this fantastic statement black Stella McCartney dress. It's unique design added glorious lady-like curves to Kate's famous boyish figure.

Miss - Lana Del Rey
She may well be a Brit Award winner but new girl on the block Lana still has a lot to learn. We can only hope that her combination of what seems to be a baseball jacket and scary long bright red fingernails will be one of her few fashion blunders.

Hit - Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Rosie looked every bit the chilled out babe as she strolled about her home town in a glamourous outfit of maroon velvet trousers, a peachy cable knit and a grey tweed jacket at the Burberry Show.

Miss - Kelly Brook
Oh no Kelly what you thinking? Britain's favourite pin-up dared to bare in deep plunging neckline that left her struggling to contain two of her best assets. At least she somewhat makes up for it with her trademark 50's style skirt.

Hit - Holly Valance
Holly Valance is definitely getting used to classy lady status as she accompanied her, let's say financially stable, young entrepreneur boyfriend to the Burberry show. She looked lovely in lace with a gorgeous Birkin bag, however we simple cannot ignore those phenomenal Louboutins on her dainty Aussie toes. Talk about shoe envy!

Miss - Nicola Roberts
We know Nicola likes to make a statement, having spent so long in the shadows of her former band mates. But if you want to get noticed this is not the way to do it. You do not turn up at LFW wearing a figure swallowing baggy jumper, whether screen icon Elizabeth Taylor's face is on it or not!

This Year At... The 54th Grammys Awards

Well, well, well what a night this was. This star-studded events was filled with frocks and shocks as the dreadful news spread of Whitney Houston's passing. The formidable diva would have certainly made an appearance at the Grammy's and was even rumoured to have been lined up to perform at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy's party.
Despite the many tears shed for this world-wide loss, the music industry's kings and queens donned smiling faces and glittering ensembles to celebrate the world of music.
There were many fashion hits this night as our favourite ladies failed to disappoint, gracing the red-carpet in breathtaking gowns that flaunted their natural beauty perfectly.

First up we have our two stunners in black: Rihanna and Adele wowed the event in black Armani gowns. Rihanna wore a simple yet elegant black gown which was the result of a collaboration between herself and Mr Armani. Its plunging neckline, daring split and open back, left on-lookers in awe as she floated past.

On the other hand Adele opted for a most conservative number in her black Armani gown. She simply sparkled in her fully embellished long black creation. The stunning Brit sensation managed to walk away (in her glitzy Louboutins) with six, yes SIX Grammy awards, as well as making her stage comeback after her worrying throat operation. You go girl!

On lighter notes there was the country princess Taylor Swift and the never camera shy Paris Hilton. Taylor, who won two awards on the night wore a sensational Zuhair Murad gold dress. The intricate detail and phenomenal colour made Taylor radiate glamour. The cut out detail on the back of the dress just added to its fabulous design.

Paris' gorgeous dress was by a designer
named Basil Soda and was definitely a more elegant choice than we're used to from the billion dollar heiress. The long white gown was embellished down the middle, a perfect way to draw the eye down Paris' slender frame and to add a bit of curve her waist was cinched in by a shimmery gold belt.

And finally to top the fashion parade off was the formidable Katy Perry. The newly single starlet also toned things down and opted for a beautiful princess like Elie Saab gown in baby blue. She was the definition of grace as this flowery dress glided like a veil behind her as she floated down the red carpet. Katy kept up the blue theme by sporting some bright blue locks swept into an updo. Personally I preferred her glossy black...there's still hope.

This Year At...The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards

As the stars of some the best primetime television shows descended upon the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, all eyes were on the frock, the suits, the jewels and shoes that our TV favourites were wearing - and it's safe to say that many did not disappoint...

High up on the list of this years seriously frocked up were Glee's Lea Michele (left) (of course, were we expecting anything less?) and The Vampire Diaries Nina Dobrev (right) who were two sexy ladies in red. Michele wore a gorgeously structured gown from one of my favourite desginers, Marchesa. This backless wonder was both classy and sexy and unusual yet classic, and Michele was every inch the Hollywood glamourpuss as she glided down the carpet.

Dobrev's unbelievably sexy gown came to her courtesy of Donna Karen's latest collection. This gorgeously structured and skin tight dress would definitely get the blood pumping (excuse the pun) while remaining a perfect and stylish red carpet choice thanks to the unusual bunching design at the bottom of the dress. These two ladies are definitely two to look out for on future best dressed lists.

Now moving along to two of our more experienced red carpet dressers, we have National Treasure Cat Deeley (left) and Mad Men sex bomb Christina Hendricks (right). Deeley defined beach babe goddess in her neutral coloured Monique L'hullier gown. The beige colour of the material with its gradual shimmery detailing compliments Cat's natural glow perfectly, and her look is beautifully finished with her effortless undone tousled hair.

Ah Christina Hendricks, television's representative of the curvy woman, and boy does she represent. Not that it would be easy to ignore Christina if she walked past you in the street, but  after seeing her in this fantastic Johanna Johnson gown, I'd say it's now near impossible! This similarly neutral yet shimmery dress clung to every one of Christina's curves helping to eccentuate every one of her assets, and if if anyone had to win a prize for dressing perfectly for their shape it would be her. The wide shoulder straps resting on her shoulders draws the eye into a perfect hourglass shape while balancing out her hips, and the contrast in colour between her dress and her hair made her enviable flame coloured locks shine brighter than the sun. Bravo Christina!

Now whereas it would be nice to say that everybody dressed to impress, I unfortunately can't. Some disasters just can't be averted...
(L-R) Kerry Washington, Jayma Mays, Juliana Marguiles and Alan Cumming CLICK TO ENLARGE

First up on the list of shock frocks is Kerry Washington, who has shocked me in this Zuhair Murad concoction. While seems to be the go to colour of the night, I think she should have tried to pick a gown that at least looked finished, and not one that looks like the thread spontaneously ran out mid-production.

Second we have Glee's Jayma Mays, who like Kerry is wearing a Zuhair Murad gown (not a good night for Zuhair). Now I like Jayma Mays and yes the colour is pretty and subtle and the style is feminine but I wouldn't put it on a woman in her early thirties. Maybe this dress would be more at home at a 10 year-old's tea party, I mean I've heard of making yourself look 10 years younger but this is going a tad too far.

Third is the best wife in the world, Juliana Marguiles, who showed up in an Armani Prive design. But come on Juliana, you and I both know that this dress is doing you no favours. It looks like she's wrapped herself in clingfilm and stuck ice cube all over her chest. This dress does not flatter her figure in any way and is simply in all honesty, a bizarre design. Maybe next time Juliana.

Finally we have Alan Cumming. Well, look for yourself. What can possibly be said about this apart from it looks like he forgot to change out of his pyjama pants. Never again (hopefully!) will we see such an ensemble by an actor who's been on enough red carpets to know better.

Well there you have it, the highs (and lows) of this years Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet. I don't know about you but I can't wait for the next awards red carpet to come along so that these celebrities can both rectify their mistakes and continue to shine like the stars that they are.

This Week At....Warehouse

alternative viewThe thought that crosses many fashionistas minds is that when it comes to high street style, the prices at Warehouse are just too up there. I say that couldn't be further from the truth. To prove it here are some new pieces to help you bring Autumn in in style while being friendly to your bank balance.

Silk Bird Print BlouseBird is the word down at Warehouse this week with prints of the air-born wonders gracing many of their items. Two of my favourites are the Silk Bird Print Blouse (£55) in a gorgeous dark red colour, and this ecru coloured Skylark Print Scarf (£22), a perfect fresh and feminine accomplice to the bulky knitwear we are all sure to be wearing very soon.

Try not to wear these two stunning pieces at the same time. Too much of a good thing definitely comes to mind, and you don't want people thinking you're being attacked by a swarm of winged critters.

Finally, just because it's getting cold doesn't mean ALL our skirts have to go away. This light grey Pocket Tab Pleat Front Skirt (£40) is the perfect way to stay girly but warm in the cold months to come.

Fashion Future...The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards

On the 18th September the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles will play host to the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, a ceremony to celebrate the ultimate highs in primetime television.
With Glee's superb Jane Lynch hosting and nominees including American Idol, Glee, 30 Rock, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire and our own Downton Abbey, it is sure to be an exciting night.
But let's face it, what we really want to know is who will be frocked up in what. Whose ensemble will scream graceful swan and whose will cry ugly duckling? I can barely wait 6 days to find out!!!
For the high and lows of this years red carpet, march your fashionable behinds back here on the 19th September to see the stars in all their glory (or not!)
